  • This is something from someone who was describing the seasonal changes in Jeff, as he went from a OCD, germophobic, smart, serious, reasonable and insecure kid to self-centered, selfish jerk that so-called cares about himself and think he's better than anyone including his friends (Clarence and Sumo), but i wanna know where all this started and what source is it from, back then it weny from everyone relating themselves to him (i don't know if they assume or they lying from one thing ) and everyone defending him to coming out of nowhere, outright hating him, on my honest opinion, it something to do about those 2 episodes from the first season of the show such as Average Jeff and The Big Petey Pizza Problem. So what do you think what was the cause of this?

    • I think I said this, because I have talked about it, however all I did was the reception and sharing my opinion privately, I'm not kidding about the fanbase becoming smaller, like back when the show started, Jeff was the king of the show, and then cut back to the present it appears Sumo and Clarence are overtaking Jeff, and the fanbase has like 60-ish people? Before the fanbase had like several hundred fans, but now it isn't even close, and I actually see less people liking him as much, but at the same time I see people liking him, which makes me think as of now, he has a mixed to negative reception, mainly due to several episodes. I don't think it's me, because I don't have any death threats or any hate about me at all. I don't know if someone else has said it as well, but I think it might be.

IMO, I think it had something to do about those 2 episodes that i mentioned, may had described his dark side, which might of trigger the fanbase deadset against him, because they now know about what he really is and as the series progress over time, most of the changes in him were not always described negative, but seeing him went from no one can touch him person to getting used to physical contact within his friends and him beginning to evolve away from this OCD behavior, which i find positive, i think the source of this criticism of Jeff from where I know comes from a Tumblr user Some-SortaRabbit (a former Clarence fan user) , who might of made her review of Jeff over last year, describing that she used to like Jeff among the other 2 of his friends, but she knew how Jeff acted in "The Big Petey Pizza Problem" episode what made her including others, starting to hate Jeff completely.

    • Sorry about the previous response (I found out I've already seen it before), but also I found that Kai (another mutual of mine) and Rabbit said that he is likeable and unlikeable at the same time in this very good response. http://some-sorta-rabbit.tumblr.com/post/127111949015/kai-strider-thehell-eointheghost-how-would  I'm surprised they didn't mention how most of the stuff involving Jeff being a huge jerk didn't happen (except for his second and third episode) until after Skyler was fired.

It doesn't look like they are into Clarence anymore? But Rabbit moved on to twitter like 10-ish months ago, and I don't know if she's into it still, but to be honest the episodes after TBPPP, there are more terrible episodes and I wonder what she has to say about the awful retcon that I believe was trying to cash in on Gravity Falls.

I'm surprised that you manage this before i could, i fid find this mixed rather than clueless-ly negative, i haven't  been following since she left, i don't for kia anyway, i could mentioned a few from our fellow Clarence followers, for example: anotheraquarius, noni-ita, mrvhs and others that can't remember naming a few, used to do a lot of Clarence fanart (and some do) but either focused on something else or lost interest in it, idk, and these days in tumblr are nothing but episode screenshot and gifs on recent episodes

    • Well Chum (Mrvhs) still does fanart with Jeff and I'm not sure if Nonii is into Clarence anymore (she's a huge fan, but I don't know if she). I know Jeff's reception is mixed, but I think he's actually leaning slightly toward the negative side, and I guess a reason why was because of the huge retcon involving him, that was cashing in on, you know.

i know, but one thing that I'm questioning is Mrvhs is a side blog of Chum (i really don't know about the naming).

    • Yeah Mrvhs is, and Chum is his nickname, he said he likes all three characters. Let's get back on topic okay?

i understand,  TBH, based on your opinion on how others felt about Jeff, I'm surprised that they have nothing negative with other Clarence characters, Jeff ain't the only character that others disliked a lot (make it the 2nd, i think), i remember way back then when the show first started, everyone used to say negative about the show cause of Clarence, that many i heard ranging from YouTube, Deviantart, and Tumblr, everyone calling Clarence "retarded", "dumb", "stupid", "ugly", "sloppy", "gross" and refer him "autistic". and Clarence been delt with those over the recent years.

    • That's just offensive and pretty cruel.

it is and at that time, i felt offended because of what they said not only the character, but the show itself,  i tried my best to refrain responding or seeing anything negative about character and the show, but at times it's not easy though.

    • As you know me, I don't think Jeff is evil. It's my belief his actions are out of jealousy and the feeling of being left out. I really do understand this that Jeff got a lot of problems and sometimes his actions take too far, but still doesn't mean his all bad. He knows the things did were wrong and feels sorry about them.

It makes me real sad and very angry to see how other people think of Jeff now of days. Even Jfgoogy here is having doubts about him now (no offense, Jfgoogy). The way they keep saying it is like Jeff can never be forgivein. Those episodes of Jeff being bad are really awful. The writers are not even tying to give Jeff a break.

Hopefully, I believe Jeff will change his ways by meeting someone new in his life.

    • I admire your collective knowledge. However factually some things are off. Spencer Rothbell and staff writers have been on staff and took the lead from day one. Skyler was reportedly "keeping the couch from floating away" said Rothbell as the staff took charge of his idea of a dumb fat kid that liked everything in theist and transformed it. The weirdness of Skyler is well known from Adventure time staff writing days. His friend Jeff, whom he based Jeff on was reporting in hopes of understanding Page's actions. He had grown more schizophrenic with the stress of his own show and also aging worsens that mental imbalance. His friend stated that Cartoon Network knew of this problem and had Skyler seek treatment .he returned seeming better ,however because mental Health issues aren't "cured" they put him back in charge.figuratively. The friend Jeff explained he was at the mental Heath facility where Skyler was admitted. He has been wandering streets shirtless yelling at strangers. He had deteriorated to a non lucid state, no longer in reality he answers in riddles and sings the same song over and over. I hope this does provide further perspective for the discussions.

    • I feel Jeff has been used as the protagonist ,as you mentioned this added to the depth of character. The early fandom Jeff has loss can at least in some part be attributed to projecting or type casting the future development of the character. Obviously they are in the process of developing current characters along with exploring the main cast.
